Aunt LyndaS Cream Cheese Filled Banana Bread Recipe @pinch

Classic recipes are the best! This recipe takes classic banana nut bread and adds a cream cheese filling that elevates this to extraordinary banana bread. The bread is tender and full of flavor. It's a neat surprise when you first cut into this loaf. Perfect for a light dessert or a snack with coffee. When sliced, this makes a great presentation. A delicious and different banana bread with a cream cheese center. YUM!

Ingredients :
  • 1 cup(s) sugar
  • 1/2 cup(s) butter
  • softened
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3 - mashed ripe bananas
  • 1 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
  • 3 tablespoon(s) sour cream
  • 2 cup(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup(s) chopped nuts
  • 8 ounce(s) softened cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup(s) sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 tablespoon(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon(s) sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
  • chop nuts for sprinkling
Intructions :
  • Mix 1 cup sugar
  • butter
  • and 2 eggs.
  • Add bananas
  • salt
  • and the baking soda dissolved in sour cream.
  • Add 2 cups flour and mix well.
  • Fold in nuts.
  • In a separate bowl
  • mix the cream cheese mixture ingredients.
  • Spread half of the banana batter in two greased and floured pans.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the banana batter in both pans.
  • Spread the remaining banana bread batter on top. PS - I like to sprinkle a few extra nuts on top. Or
  • sprinkle top with 1 Tbsp sugar mixed with 1/2 tsp cinnamon before baking. Makes a nice crunchy top. But that's totally optional.
  • Bake at 350 for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Test for doneness.
  • Cool and slice. Makes a lovely presentation.
