Classic recipes are the best! This recipe takes classic banana nut bread and adds a cream cheese filling that elevates this to extraordinary banana bread. The bread is tender and full of flavor. It's a neat surprise when you first cut into this loaf. Perfect for a light dessert or a snack with coffee. When sliced, this makes a great presentation. A delicious and different banana bread with a cream cheese center. YUM!

Ingredients :
- 1 cup(s) sugar
- 1/2 cup(s) butter
- softened
- 2 - eggs
- 3 - mashed ripe bananas
- 1 teaspoon(s) salt
- 1 teaspoon(s) baking soda
- 3 tablespoon(s) sour cream
- 2 cup(s) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup(s) chopped nuts
- CREAM CHEESE MIXTURE:
- 8 ounce(s) softened cream cheese
- 1/3 cup(s) sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1 tablespoon(s) all-purpose flour
- OPTIONAL TOPPING
- 1 tablespoon(s) sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
- chop nuts for sprinkling
Intructions :
- Mix 1 cup sugar
- butter
- and 2 eggs.
- Add bananas
- salt
- and the baking soda dissolved in sour cream.
- Add 2 cups flour and mix well.
- Fold in nuts.
- In a separate bowl
- mix the cream cheese mixture ingredients.
- Spread half of the banana batter in two greased and floured pans.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the banana batter in both pans.
- Spread the remaining banana bread batter on top. PS - I like to sprinkle a few extra nuts on top. Or
- sprinkle top with 1 Tbsp sugar mixed with 1/2 tsp cinnamon before baking. Makes a nice crunchy top. But that's totally optional.
- Bake at 350 for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Test for doneness.
- Cool and slice. Makes a lovely presentation.
