Basic Spritz Cookies Recipe @pinch

Spritz cookies have a buttery shortbread flavor and are essential for any Christmas cookie platter. Decorate Spritz cookies with your favorite goodies like colored sanding sugar or sprinkles. Swap out the disc in a Spritz cookie press, and you can create uniform cookies in fun shapes. Fun to make, package in a cellophane bag, they make great gifts. That's if they make it off the cooling rack after everyone snags \ Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without these. Watch it though because they go fast.

Ingredients :
  • 1/2 cup(s) butter
  • softened
  • 1/4 cup(s) vegetable shortening
  • 3/4 cup(s) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
  • 2 cup(s) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
Intructions :
  • With a mixer
  • mix butter and shortening thoroughly.
  • Add sugar
  • gradually
  • continuing to beat for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • Add egg and vanilla extract, beat well.
  • Lightly spoon flour into a measuring cup and level off.
  • Blend flour
  • baking powder
  • and salt.
  • Add flour in 3 additions. The batter will be stiff.
  • Fill and assemble the cookie gun. Use your desired disc.
  • Press cookies.
  • Decorate with colored sugar at this stage.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes at 375 F or until cookies just start to turn golden around the edges.
  • Be careful not to overbake. Makes about 6-7 dozen cookies.
