Marions Spritz Cookies Recipe @pinch

We love making spritz cookies during the holidays. You don't have to bother with cookie cutters. The cookie press does the work and you can make different shapes. They are fun to decorate, too! This recipe makes buttery and sweet spritz cookies. The dough is firm and ideal for pressing them out. Have fun with your Christmas cookie tray this year and add these spritz cookies to it. Spritz cookies have a colourful history, come in all shapes, and all of my grandchildren have taken their turns making them, while still in their preschool years. I own several spritz guns or presses, and I love to study the history of this cookie. My favourite recipe comes to my family from Marion, my friend of 47 years. I have recently made a pilot for television, featuring two of my grandchildren making spritz cookies. Recipe Cuisine: German Recipe Category: Cookies Yield: 6 Servings
Ingredients :
  • 1 cup - butter
  • 1 cup - sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon(s) vanilla
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3 cups - all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
Intructions :
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and vanilla
  • Add the eggs and beat well
  • Add the flour and salt. Mix until blended. If making a colored dough, add a few drops of color to all or just a portion of the batter at this point
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Press the dough through a cookie press and transfer onto an ungreased cookie sheet
  • Bake for 10 - 12 minutes. (This varies with the type pan and the oven. Sometimes they are cooked in 8 minutes, so keep an eye on them.)
  • If decorating the cookie with colored sugar, sprinkle over the cookies before they bake
  • Add icing sugar after placing them on a cooling rack. These cookies can be frozen, but they keep well in a tin for a week. They never last longer than that! Tip: Check out garage sales and vintage stores to find old presses.
