Mennonite funny cake is funny... It's a Pennsylvania Dutch dessert made like a pie but tastes like a cake, and the layers reverse while baking. The heavier batter on the bottom rises to the top, and the chocolate layer sinks to the bottom and leaves a swirl effect. The vanilla top of the cake has a blondie flavor and texture, while the bottom is a brownie. Baking everything in a flaky crust adds another element to this delicious, easy-to-make dessert. To decorate, top the cake with a bit of cream and chocolate chips or a dusting of cocoa. Yum! This funny cake is a cake/pie combination. The chocolate layer will sink to the bottom giving the cake a gooey layer. A Mennonite favorite!
