Homemade waffles are super easy to make and this recipe has minimal ingredients. A delicious way to treat your sweetie to a special breakfast. Turning the waffles red makes these fluffy waffles fun. The fresh strawberry sauce is tasty and a pretty topping. It would be yummy on ice cream or shortcake. Made some healthy waffles tonight with a wheat berry whole grain baking mix, with a homemade strawberry sauce. Delish!! Thought this would be a great breakfast for your sweetheart on Valentine's Day! And yes, a few drops of red food coloring for red waffles. ;)

Ingredients :
- 1 cup(s) baking mix (used a berry whole grain mix)
- 1 - egg
- 1 tablespoon(s) oil
- 3/4 cup(s) milk
- 3 - drops red food coloring (optional)
- STRAWBERRY SAUCE
- 1 quart(s) strawberries hulled and quartered (about 24 oz)
- 1/4 cup(s) sugar
- 1/4 cup(s) water
- 1 - orange, zested and juiced
- 1 tablespoon(s) cornstarch
Intructions :
- Spray and heat up waffle iron
- In a small pot mix, strawberries, sugar, water, and orange juice, and zest
- Cook on med-high until bubbly. Add cornstarch and whisk until it starts to thicken
- Turn to simmer and slightly mash. Set aside for waffles
- Mix waffle ingredients adding food coloring (optional) until the desired color. Stir
- Following manufacturer instructions for your waffle maker, pour batter into the waffle maker and cook
- Assemble 2 waffles top with strawberry sauce, dust with powdered sugar, and whipped cream!
