Brown Sugar Glazed Meatloaf Recipe @pinch

Meatloaf is a classic comfort meal and this is a great meatloaf recipe. We liked using a combination of three types of meat (pork, beef, and veal). It gave a wonderful blend of flavors. The brown sugar glaze is what really makes the dish. It makes a lovely sweet crust that's a fantastic contrast to the savory flavors of the meat. Comfort food at its best. My family loves this meatloaf and asks me to make it often. Though there are so many great ways to make meatloaf this one is our favorite. The mixture of beef, pork, and veal make it so flavorful and the brown sugar glaze is amazing!

Recipe Cuisine: German Recipe Category: Meatloafs Yield: 6 Servings
Ingredients :
  • 1 pound(s) ground beef
  • 1 pound(s) ground pork
  • 1 pound(s) ground veal
  • 1 cup(s) Italian seasoning bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup(s) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 large raw eggs
  • 1 teaspoon(s) black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cup(s) ketchup, divided
  • 1/2 cup(s) dark brown sugar
Intructions :
  • In a large mixing bowl add ground beef, ground pork and ground veal. Then add 2 raw eggs, black pepper, garlic powder, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, 1/2 cup of the divided ketchup and chopped onion
  • Mix with hands until all ingredients are well combined
  • Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. In a loaf pan, shape meat mixture into a loaf and cover with aluminum foil. I place my loaf pan on a small cookie sheet when baking so it's easier to keep taking out of the oven to drain any grease. Bake for approx 50-60 minutes, draining the excess grease in between
  • After about 50-60 minutes, or when the meatloaf is cooked through, remove the foil to add the glaze. To make the glaze, in a small bowl, add 1 cup of ketchup and 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar. Mix well. You can add more or less of ketchup and brown sugar so the consistency and flavor are to your liking. Some people add yellow mustard to the glaze mixture but I don't. With a spoon spread the glaze all over the top of meatloaf to completely cover it. Bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the glaze is thick and sticky looking
  • Take out of oven and let cool for about 10 minutes, then slice and serve. Goes well with gravy, mashed potatoes and vegetables.
